Choose your Area Code [up]
Phone Technology is a nationwide
service - so when you switch to Phone Technology you
have the freedom to choose a new number in an entirely
different area code.
Let's say you own a company in New york but your
customers are primarily in Los Angeles. You might want
your new Phone Technology number to be in the 310 area
code. Your calls to your LA customers will then be
local, as will theirs to you - and you'll both save
money. With Phone Technology, you're not tied to your
current area code unless you want to be. And in that
case, you can almost always select a new number within
your current code. Available Area Codes is another way
Phone Technology helps you transcend the limits of
physical location.

LNP:
Keep Your Phone Number [up]
Start by entering your current phone number (land line
or cell) in the tool to check if your
number lies within the geographic area where numbers can
be transferred to Phone Technology. If it does, when you
sign up for Phone Technology select
"Keep My
Existing Phone Number."
Upon sign-up you will be assigned a temporary phone
number with the same area code as your current number,
if available. You can start using your temporary number
immediately.
Transferring your number will take a minimum of 20 days
once you start the transfer process. You can track the
progress of your transfer any time on your
Phone Technology Online Account. When the
transfer is completed we notify you by email and you can
immediately begin using your old number once again.
The large majority of number transfers get
completed in a timely manner. However, in a
small number of cases phone numbers that are within
Phone Technology’s geographic transfer area and that
have been authorized by customers for release to Phone
Technology are delayed and/or unable to be transferred
over.
In this unlikely event, you can choose to keep using
your temporary Phone Technology number or get a new
Phone Technology number in your area code.
Alternatively, some Phone Technology customers keep
their existing number with their old phone company but
with minimal service - and do virtually all their
communicating through Phone Technology.
We realize that these options aren't the same as
transfer of your number to Phone Technology. But
hopefully our features, service and pricing will make it
very easy for you to get very comfortable with your new
Phone Technology phone number right away.

TRANSFER YOUR
EXISTING PHONE NUMBER/LOCAL NUMBER PORTABILITY (LNP) [up]
Local Number Portability (LNP) enables consumers in the
United States to transfer their existing telephone
number (traditional or Internet-based) from one phone
service provider to another. With Phone Technology
Internet Phone Service, you can request that your number
be “ported”
($15.00 Porting Fee) at anytime during the initial
order process or even after you have become a Phone
Technology subscriber, as long as you maintain phone
service for the number you want to transfer.
Although Phone Technology makes every
attempt to work with all telephone service providers
across the United States, certain local or regional
guidelines may preclude us from being able to port your
number to Phone Technology. In such cases, a new number
from Phone Technology would be provided. The process may
take 6-8 weeks to complete. This transfer time can be
dramatically reduced when all forms are correctly filled
out with accurate information. During the porting
process, Phone Technology will provide a temporary phone
number that is your option to keep. Phone Technology
will have your old service turned off after the transfer
has taken place.
